Wow – it finally happened…

March 19, 2007

No, I don’t have a girlfriend.

But – someone does!  In 2000, several friends got together at one Tyndale University College and decided that it was time…time to start an informal choir.  We called it – “the pickup choir”.  George Sweetman wanted to call it the “Celebration Choir” and I’m pretty sure that some of the administration tried to buck the name…but eventually they all accepted it.  We have an impressive resume including going on a couple of trips, choir hoodies (with our voice part on the sleeve and nickname on the hood), singing at the President’s Dinner and singing at Graduation.  Besides this we have have a history of just hanging out and having fun.  I was thinking of starting a pickup choir facebook group and inviting all alumni to join.

At any rate – it finally happened.  After six seasons of pickup choir, two people started dating while (or shortly after attending) the choir!  No one has actually done that yet (to my knowledge) and I think that this deserves special recognition!  Well done Paul and Liz…well done in deed.  I know that the choir has done its job.  It’s all been worth it…

The best part of this entry is the implied purpose of the pickup choir.
    Pick up…
I suppose DROP OUT just doesn’t cut it here.

My goal was to be the first to ‘pick up’… too bad! haha

I am just glad that I got to be a part of the choir this year… this will go down in history!!!

Hey Jay, I just read your article on “rich Pastors!” Very good. You gave us a lot to think about. So…what if you were Pastoring a church of 1000 and you were the Sr. Pastor, what would you consider a fair salary? Considering what 1st year youth pastors are getting paid in Canada, maybe I should move to Canada as well, what do you think?
    Blessings!
